Gurgaon, Haryana: On Febraury 25, 2010, the only civil society-led community radio station in the National Capital Region celebrates three months of broadcasting. Gurgaon Ki Awaaz Samudayik Radio station is a community radio station set up by the NGO, The Restoring Force, which works in government schools in Gurgaon in the area of infrastructure enhancement and career counseling.
Broadcasting on 107.8 FM, Gurgaon Ki Awaaz provides a forum for expression and interaction for some of the most marginalised community groups in Gurgaon, including communities living in Gurgaon's semi-urban villages, migrant clusters and slums, as well as women and children. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day in Hindi and Haryanvi, and true to the spirit of community radio, does not play any film songs, giving air time instead to Haryanvi folk music forms such as ragini, and folk music from the many migrant communities that have made Gurgaon their home.
The station also broadcasts programs on careers, entrepreneurship, health, social issues, migration and cultural practices.
