The public lecture

The focus of the lecture "Fighting Corruption: The Way Forward" will be on the steps that both the state and civil society should take to achieve corruption free governance in our country. They will include simple measures that are easy to adopt, support to reforms that are already under way, and more complex reforms that need consensus building. The resulting mix of preventive and punitive measures that involves all levels of government will call for much patience and willingness to learn and change as the process of implementation moves forward.

The Speaker

Dr. Samuel Paul is the founder and first chairman of the Board of Public Affairs Centre. He pioneered the use of citizen report cards on public services as a tool of public accountability, both in India and other countries. He was earlier the director of IIM, Ahmedabad, and advisor to the United Nations and World Bank. In India, he has been on several government boards and committees, including the committee on Prime Minister's awards for excellence in government. His latest book, "Fighting Corruption: The Way Forward" will shortly be released.
