Workshop on Disaster Management
Disaster triggers a consequence of loss either to human beings or to property leading to a huge disruption in social & economic factors of the place. The recent Uttarakhand episode is an example of the natural disaster wherein many lives of people, property got damaged leading to crumbling the resources of the entire state.
To avert the maximum damage to oneself from natural as well as manmade disaster one should be prepared enough to handle the situation properly. To do so, knowledge of know-how is important.
The workshop organized at South Delhi cluster on 24 July, 2013 for the beneficiaries of PAB & GARIMA dealt with the procedures of aversion and protection from disasters.
Teams from Disaster management of Delhi conducted the workshop explaining the precautions and safety measures to defend on during disasters. The team shared the knowledge on Flood Disaster, Fire Disaster, Earthquake disaster etc.
Practical approach was used to explain the safety measures for averting and securing the families during such times. They demonstrated rescue methods of flood disaster using vacuum bottles and thermocol and suggested to have stock of grains to survive during the odd times.
They also explained on do & don’ts during a fire accident like
Call up the fire brigade
Use water and sand to doze of the fire
Use of fire alarms and extinguishers
Use of blanket and rolling in sand if got into a fire injury
Not to touch with bare hand
Use wooden material to control electric shocks
Wear slippers during electrical repairs
On the topic of earthquake they suggested that the best practice is to run out in open and not stand or stay inside or nearby any buildings. The workshop also dealt with the process of rescuing people from debris and precaution to be taken while pulling and CPR methods.
Beneficiaries carefully listened and even took a note of it. The workshop made them understand the potential disaster that can happen at any time and on how to secure their families by adopting simple techniques. A small recalling session was also conducted at the end just to brush up. Workshop came to an end with a vote of thanks by the gathered beneficiaries to the team members of disaster management for conducting the workshop.
