What troubles you regarding traffic or pedestrian safety at that location?:
I understand that there is a complete ban on goods traffic plying in the city upto Mahim from 8 am to 10 pm. I think this restriction has been in operation for over 25 years now. Mumbai has grown unimaginably over these 25 years but there has been no extension of this limit. During peak hours all sorts of non - passenger vehicles like trucks, tempos, garbage vans, water tankers & even cement mixers are clogging the traffic. Most of these vehicles are badly maintained & recklessly driven with scant regard for traffic rules. Many a times these huge vehicles get into smaller by lanes and are unable to get out on either side & cause unspeakable misery to other passenger vehicle drivers. A few days back a truck carrying sand had broken down with spillage of sand on the Santacruz flyover on the W.E.Highway which resulted in mind boggling traffic snarls & I learnt that because of this some outbound fliers also missed their flights. A while ago I had read in the news papers that Mr.Sanjay Barve (a senior police official in the traffic dept) had mooted a proposal to ban this type of vehicular movement upto either Borivali or Andheri during peak hours, but nothing seems to have been done thereafter.I think it is about time we re-visit this issue & extend the present bar on goods traffic during peak hours from Mahim to Borivali.
